James Burling Ison was born in Bottisham in 1885 son of Alfred and Ann ISON(née BURLING).

1891 census...Aged 6, he was at Swaffham Road, Bottisham with his father Alfred ISON [50] farm labourer; his mother Ann [43]; sister Kate [14] and brother Alfred [13] farm labourer, Stephen [11] and William [10]. They were all born in Bottisham.

1901 census...None of the family have been identified in the 1901 census. His father appears to have died in 1908 and his mother in 1909.

1911 census...Aged 27, a single farm labourer, he was at Wells Cottages, Bottisham with his brother Alfred and his wife Eliza and their three children, Minnie, John and William.


He enlisted in Newmarket.
He died at No. 21 Stationary Hospital at Sarigol, Greece, of pneumonia. The battalion were at the time near Poroi.
